"Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives
whole."
- Roger Caras
Shanon Gourlie - Horses and Dogs. This was the nick name given to me by
dear family friends when I was about 7 years old. Horses and dogs have
always been a major passion to me and they have led me down the road I am on
today. I have enjoyed showing and riding my horses since I was a
young age and will continue to do so until I can no longer get on. As long
as I can remember I have had a dog by my side.
Our dogs are a very big party of our family. They spend their time with
us inside the house and out. They sleep with us and eat with us. They are
our children too. It is very important to us were our babies go. They must
go to a home that will care for them and love them as much as we do.
We live on 30 acres in Northern British Columbia. We are surrounded by
beautiful mountains and powerful rivers. This is Gods country. We raise the
Havanese and horses. Our house has also been blessed with 2 children, ages
14 and 12.
My daughter developed allergies to horses, 2 years ago. This was very
upsetting as horses are a big part of our lives. I went on a search for a
horse that would be compatible for her. I found the Baskir Curly. This is
the only horse known to be hypo-allergenic (this means that someone with
allergies can tolerate this kind) . She is a strong horse with a big heart. The motto for the curly is,
small enough for a child but built for a man.

We also have a gorgeous Andalusian Mare that a fantastic lady and her
family fromWashington, U.S.A. have leased to us. The Andalusian is the
original horse of Spain. They date back to the cave painting of 2500 B.C. There was a band on exporting them from Spain that was lifted in 1962. This
is one of the reasons they are unheard of in North America. The Andy is a
very old breed and the foundation breed to many horses.
They are the horses of Kings. This mare is bred to another Andy and is due
to have her baby in July. It is an honor to have her here with us. The grace
and beauty of the Andy is unsurpassed by few. They love people and will do
whatever you ask of them. They are brave and beautiful. I have grown to
love Diosa very much. It will extremely hard to let her go, but I will have
her baby to remind me of her. She is a well bred mare that comes from a
famous pedigree, including Legionario III.
The stallion that she was bred to is Regalatto De Alcazar Nicco, he also
comes from a famous pedigree. Nicco's mother had solid blood lines that are
some of best lines that North America has to offer. His mom, Amitista,
was one of the most beautiful mares that North America has produced so far. Amistista
only produced three babies before she fell to colic.

Our Kennel

I spent many hours researching the perfect breed of dog to raise on our
farm. My findings led me to the Havanese. I wanted a small breed as I wanted
them to be raised in the home and not in a kennel, The Golden Retriever is a
wonderful breed but they have large litters and large babies. 10 puppies at
6 weeks old can make quite the mess in your home (if you know what I mean). The
small breed that I was looking for could not be fragile as they would not
last on the ranch. Again the Havanese fit the bill. After the horrible news
that my daughter was allergic to horses I wanted a dog that a person with
allergies could own. How wonderful for that individual to finally be able to
have a dog of their own.
Owning and raising the Havanese has only helped me to realize that I
have made the right choice.
ESPERANZA is the Spanish word for HOPE. I hope that all my children and
my animals grow up strong, happy and healthy. I hope they always have people
in there lives that love them and will care for them when I am not around. I
will do everything in my power to ensure this happens.
